The Joe Walker VEX JETS is Antelope Valley’s number one middle school robotics team. The team made of entirely junior high school students received and overall tournament championship award, qualifying them to attend Southern California’s VRC middle school state championships in 2014.
Joe Walker middle school was the only school at the time to host VEX robotics competitions in all of the Antelope Valley. The competitions drew team from all over Southern California including middle schools in Marietta and Downey. The team was lead by Joe Walker VEX Robotics coach and teach Matt Anderson.
Over the last few years the work of Anderson and his team have transformed VEX program from and idea into a reality. During this time in 2014 Mr. Anderson was seeking community donation to supply the team with additional 3D printers.
Achievement Outcome
The Rajaratnam Foundation supplied the team with two state of the art MakerBot 3D printers. Students have learned how to design, manipulate, and print actual parts to create robots from the next world championship competition. The printers were founded through The Rajaratnam Foundation donations program earlier in the year. Students in the VEX program are receiving a daily hands on approach to designing and building functioning robots in a way that prepares them for careers in science, technology, engineering and math. The Rajaratnam Foundation was proud to have taken part in this endeavor.
